I wanted to draw your attention to an exciting show which is on at the Michael Werner gallery in London.

These neo-impressionist paintings and drawings are both sensual and vibrant pieces of figurative art done at a time when Doig was a student at St Martin's in the 1980's.  The art here is also a visual embodiment of Doig's love of travel, cities and space.

Dear Students,  When you pass the Craft Study Centre on your way out, venture in and have a good look at the ephemeral, sculptural works of Caroline Sharp.   The Crafts Study Centre is delighted to announce the exhibition by Caroline Sharp: Land-Line-Form from 11 March until 26 April In her sculptural assemblage works, landscape architect and artist Caroline Sharp uses a variety of natural materials including her own charcoal, clay, chalk, willow, poplar, birch, hazel, dogwood stems and leaves. Her main focus is on sustainability and treading the land gently. Much of her woven work is strongly influenced by natural form, containment and movement. More recently, Caroline has explored ideas in response to the craft of charcoal burning and her autobiographical journey in relation to walking the land and the memory of place. I am particularly interested in how these fragile and autobiographical  works are informed by walking, landscape and place. Perhaps you could have a think about this too and let me know your thoughts when I see you next. Sam

Cezanne and the Modern

For those Fine Artists amongst you, there is a superb exhibition of watercolours by the French painter Paul Cézanne's work which will be on at the Ashmoleon museum when we visit for the day on Tuesday 18th March. This is a real coup for the Ashmoleon, great timing for us, and well worth the entrance fee! As always, reviews welcome!!

The exhibition will also feature paintings and sculptures by artists including Paul Gauguin, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Edouard Manet, Vincent van Gogh, Jacques Lipchitz, Edgar Degas and Amedeo Modigliani.

Martin Creed: What's the Point of It?

Go along and have a look at what you think of the Turner prize winner's show which has received mixed reviews. Some will like, some won't. Give us your take as you aim to write your first critical review for the blog. 

And if you like what you see, why not go along to see his Work No. 1020 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on the evening of Tuesday 8th April. Along with his live band, Creed aims to give ballet a fresh perspective in a gig of spoken word, performance, music and dance (note the interdisciplinary nature of Creed's art).

Hockney: Printmaker
